Kaishi is one of the most sacred mountains in the world. This mountain locates in the western plateau of Tibet, China. The mountain is about 6, 656 m above the sea level and it gives life to four grand rivers, namely, Shiquan River, Maquan River, Xiangquan River and Kongqu River.
Transportation to Mount Kailash
Mount Kailash witnesses only few thousand people each year because of its limit transportation. The only way to get there is by renting a car. If you are travelling from Lhasa, you can hire a car with experienced driver and guide. Then, you can drive on the Xinjiang-Tibet Highway to reach Kailash. The landscape along the way is stunning. Or, if you are traveling from Nepal, you can first arrive at the Kyirong border. And then drive with the Tibetan local travel agency to Saga and then Kailash. Usually it will take about 2 days to arrive at Mt. Kailash.
Kailash Trek
Mount Kailash has been a sacred mountain for more than 2,000 years. It has great influence among four Tibetan religions, Buddhism, Hinduism, Bon and Jainism. Each year, pilgrims and travelers from all over the world come here to show their respect to their religion. The most well-known activities here is the Kailash Trek that pilgrims trek around the mountain for 53 kilometers. Usually this trek will take about 3 days. Here is the trek route:
Darchen – Prayer square – ugu Temple – Dirapuk Monastery – Sky-burial Point – Dolma La Pass – Dzultripuk Monastery – Darchen
Attractions nearby
Not far from Mount Kailash, there lies the holy lake Manasarovar. Legend says that the fish in the holy lake can cure sterility, dropsy and other diseases. People usually packaged the Manasarovar tour together with their Kailash tour.
