About Saga Dawa Festival

Saga Dawa Festival is an important Buddhism festival on April 14 in Tibetan calendar. It is the date of Buddha Sakyamuni’s birth, nirvara and paranirvara. So it has significant meaning in Tibetan Buddhism. For celebration, Tibetan people will hold many rituals. For example, in Tarpoche near Darchen, people will hang prayer flags on a vertical flag pole and erect it. The prayer flags express their devoutness to Mt. Kailash. After that, the trekking around Mt. Kailash begins.

Trek around Mt. Kailash

Normally the trekking takes three days. On the first day, we will arrive at Dira-puk after seeing the celebration in Tarpoche. Then on the second day, we will arrive at Zutul-puk. Finally, on the third day we will go back to Darchen (the starting point of the trek) and go to Lake Manasarovar.
