Kyirong Border news updated
The Kyirong border was first opened in 1961 mainly for trading between Tibetans and Nepalese. Then it later became the one of the key ways between China and Nepal. Thus, many travelers from home and abroad enter or exit the two countries. Meanwhile the Nepal-Tibet overland tour via Kyirong also becomes popular. However, since the 2015 strong earthquake happened in Nepal, the road of the Chinese border and Nepal border were damaged heavily. Therefore, the Kyirong has closed to foreign travelers. Till now, the Chinese side has finished the reconstruction of the road. But the Nepal side is still not ready. In addition, in June 2016, heavy monsoon rains along the Tibet-Nepal border have caused serious damage to the roads.
According to this situation, it is not a wise decision to enter Tibet via Kyirong border in recent months. Moreover, there is no official report from China that specify the exact time of reopening this border.
